Prime 8 consultant, Brandon Richey, and his wife, DeNae, spent the first year of their marriage in Kuwait on a scholarship. It was during that time they imagined giving their future children overseas travel experience. Fast forward a few years, father of six girls, Brandon finds himself working remotely for Prime 8, when the opportunity to travel with his family presented itself.
With the blessing of both Prime 8 and his client, Brandon began planning a trip around the world with DeNae and the girls. They were determined to make this trip more than a vacation; they wanted to show their girls the world beyond their ‘bubble’ – to meet and live amongst people from many different cultures and walks of life.
Their goal was to spend several months living on different continents to establish a sense of community and stability in each place. Brandon and DeNae wanted their girls to be able to say, ‘we lived there’ instead of ‘we visited’. During their odyssey, they set up home in Greece, Israel, Swaziland in Southern Africa, New Zealand, and Bali where they rented homes for 2-4 months.
While Brandon continued to work and successfully deliver on his client’s project, the family made friends, explored, and spent time with local people. The Richey daughters have friends in all of those places across the globe.
“My girls met great people and they see the world as a broader place”, Brandon says. “They found out just how happy people can be with simple lives. From a family perspective, the concept was that we accomplished something together, something we worked for, saved and planned for. This was a unique time that we can look back on and something special we got to experience, united, as a family.”
